Educating Parents for Their Children's Future
Launched in partnership with the Somerville and Medford Public School systems, English For Parents (EFP) aims to provide a crucial service for our immigrant community.
Many immigrants come to this country not for themselves, but for the opportunity this country can provide for their children. To that end, many immigrant parents are finding a significant language barrier between themselves and their children, preventing them from connecting in many ways, including difficulty in helping their children navigate the hardships of their own lives. The purpose of this program is to break down those barriers and allow immigrant parents to have the understanding and confidence to engage with their children and their schools. EFP provides a basic ESOL structured-course that is molded to fit the needs of immigrant parents specifically, so that they have the education to participate in activities such as PTA meetings or teacher conferences.
